Award-gobbling powerhouse The Artist has picked up a batch of new trophies – Australian sanctioned, at that – on its march to the Oscar podium.
The inaugural Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) International Awards‘ ceremony took place in Los Angeles over the weekend, ahead of the first ever local AACTA ceremony this week.
The Artist predictably claimed the lion’s share, taking home Best Film, Best Direction (Michel Hazanavicius) and Best Actor (Jean Dujardin). Meryl Streep was named Best Actress for her work in The Iron Lady, while The Ides of March and Margin Call shared the Best Screenplay prize.
AACTA president Geoffrey Rush will host the 1st AACTA Awards ceremony this Tuesday.
