Update: THR confirms Kate Winslet will not be involved in the film. Elizabeth Banks and Pee Wee Herman himself, Paul Reubens, will however. The original report is as follows.
Charlie Kaufman’s Frank or Francis adds Kate Winslet and Catherine Keener to the cast list, according to Vulture.
The film, which Kaufman wrote, will be his second directorial effort after 2008’s Synecdoche, New York. Known for his complex and obscure screenplays, Kaufman already has Steve Carell, Jack Black, Nicolas Cage and Kevin Kline signed on.
In this reportedly quasi-musical (as some dialogue will be sung), Carell will star as writer/director Frank Arder, who plays every role in his latest film, which is nominated for an impressive 29 Oscars. Black takes on the role of internet commentator/troll Francis, Cage will play an actor/comedian whose career is on the downward spiral, and Kline plays both the inventor of a head designed to write the perfect script, and the head itself.
No word yet on the roles Winslet and Keener will take, though it is thought they could be of Frank’s wife and mistress.
