Australian writer-producer Andrew Wight and American cinematographer Mike deGruy have died in a helicopter crash off the coast of New South Wales.
Pictured: Wight, with Sanctum executive producer James Cameron.
Wight, 51, co-wrote and produced the 3-D Australian film Sanctum. He has been described as James Cameron‘s Australian right-hand man.
DeGruy, 60, had won numerous BAFTAs and Emmy awards for his craft.
The duo was reportedly scouting locations for an upcoming National Geographic project.
Cameron issued a joint press release with National Geographic to share his condolences:
“Mike and Andrew were like family to me… They were my deep-sea brothers and both were true explorers who did extraordinary things and went places no human being has been.”
