Robert Rodriguez‘s Machete Kills is in the works and Danny Trejo is in talks to reprise his role as the Mexican you don’t want to mess with, Deadline reports.
The sequel to 2010’s Machete is part of a planned trilogy and will be produced and financed by Alexander Rodnyansky, with Rodriguez, Aaron Kaufman, Iliana Nikolic, Sergei Bespalov and Rick Schwartz also acting as producers. Rodriguez commented that “Alexander has a tremendous background in moviemaking and huge enthusiasm for continuing the Machete legend onscreen”.
The screenplay, written by Kyle Ward, will see Machete recruited by the US Government to bring down a Mexican cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who plan to use a weapon in space to create a world war.
Production is believed to begin in April and if Trejo signs back on he will be joined by several original cast members, should their characters have survived Machete’s original wrath.
