Alex Proyas’ pricey Paradise Lost has been abandoned

Legendary Pictures has abandoned Alex Proyas‘ $120 million adaptation of John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost, Deadline reports.

Production was halted on the film back in December, as the studio struggled to keep costs down. Legendary decided to scrap the project when they realised they couldn’t adequately depict the tale’s grand, celestial battles on a smaller budget.

Bradley Cooper, Ben Walker, Djimon Hounsou and Casey Affleck had all been cast as warring angels in the picture. The shoot was to take place in New South Wales, where it would have generated approximately 1300 local jobs.
