Ridley Scott has signed on to direct The Counselor, a “No Country For Old Men on steroids” script written by Cormac McCarthy, Deadline reports.
As we eagerly await his latest film Prometheus, Scott is apparently eyeing Michael Fassbender for his next production. A formal offer has not been made but it’s thought that after teaming up on Prometheus Fassbender will likely return to work alongside the director.
The film sounds to be a McCarthy-esque Breaking Bad, as a well respected lawyer naively wades into the drug business thinking he won’t be consumed and then finds himself battling to survive. Producer Steve Schwartz said, “It’s a masculine world into which, unusually, two women intrude to play leading roles. This may be one of McCarthy’s most disturbing and powerful works.”
The project has been fast tracked, with McCarthy only turning in the screenplay in December; Scott looks to begin production in May.
It is unknown when Scott will begin work on his Blade Runner sequel.
