You’re invited to The Quickflix Oscar Live-Blog

By our count, it’s been … ooh … 51 weeks since the Countdown to the Oscars first began. Can you believe the 84th Academy Awards ceremony is now mere days away?

UPDATE: It’s happening right here!

Before we start heralding next year’s nominees (The Grey!), let’s send off the current batch in style.

All 5,765 of the mostly old and white male voters have sent in their ballots, so not even a major sex-scandal involving George Clooney, Meryl Streep, and Uggie the Dog can alter the final results now.

Though the Oscars are highly political, and almost never a true indicator of the year’s best movies, it’s undeniably the biggest event on the movie-lover’s calendar. So, on February 27th, we’ll be live-blogging every moment of the Billy Crystal hosted event right here on the Quickflix Blog.

Will French film The Artist become the first non-US/UK production to win Best Picture? Can Meryl Streep collect her third acting Oscar? Could funny people Jonah Hill, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Bret McKenzie take home an Academy Award? Will anyone be able to pronounce the name Michel Hazanavicius? All will be revealed on the morning of Monday, February 27!

Head to blog.quickflix.com.au at 12:30pm EST / 9:30am WST on February 27th, or follow us on Twitter and Facebook to see all the results, as well as our thoughts on the inevitable controversial and cringe-worthy moments, and our running tally of Muppet appearances (it better be greater than ‘one’!).

We know that you’ll have a seemingly infinite number of live-blogging options on Oscar day, and we’d like to pre-emptively thank you for your patronage. We can’t guarantee we’re the best, but we’ll certainly be begging for your attention. Hey, just like we’re campaigning for an Academy Award ourselves!

Join us at 12:30pm EST / 9:30am WST on February 27th!
