Well, if Rooney Mara won’t take on the lead female role in Spike Lee‘s Oldboy remake, Elizabeth Olsen will do just fine!
According to Twitch, the Martha Marcy May Marlene star has reportedly been offered a key part opposite Josh Brolin in the project.
Mara previously passed, as did Australian Mia Wasikowska.
Though anyone who has seen Park Chan-wook‘s supreme South Korean original will understand the importance of the character in question, we won’t spoil the details here.
Brolin will play a man kidnapped and imprisoned without explanation, and released 15 years later (also without explanation). Framed for the murder of his wife, our hero goes on a violent rampage and hunts down his mysterious captors.
Lee has had some trouble securing a villain for the flick. Christian Bale, Colin Firth, and Clive Owen have all declined.
