Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs sequel gets a release date

The sequel to the wonderful animated comedy Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs has secured a release date.

According to Box Office Mojo, Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers will hit cinemas December 20, 2013.

This means Sony Pictures expects the film to be a big player during the 2013/2014 holiday season, which is fair enough considering the original film’s surprise $243 million haul.

Though plot details are scarce, it has been revealed that Horrible Bosses screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will pen the flick. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller won’t be back to helm (busy with a potential 21 Jump Street sequel and the LEGO movie); animators Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn will take over instead.

It is unknown if the original voice cast – including Bill Hader and Anna Faris – will return.
