Warner Bros might come to the rescue of Ron Howard‘s seemingly doomed adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Dark Tower, Deadline reports.
Universal Pictures balked at Howard’s plan to produce three movies and two limited-run TV series’ based on the source material, and passed on the project last year.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros is now close to finalising a deal that will allow Howard to – at the very least – make the first movie.
As previously reported, HBO will likely produce the TV series.
The script has been written by Akiva Goldsman, who will produce alongside Howard’s frequent collaborator Brian Grazer.
Javier Bardem remains attached as gun-slinging protagonist Roland Deschain in the fantasy-western.
Discuss: Excited to see this project finally (almost) get off the ground?
