What’s that now? The trailer for Tim Burton‘s adaptation of 70s soap opera Dark Shadows makes it look like a barrel of demented fun? We wouldn’t have believed it either, unless we’d seen it with our own eyes…
We’ve been unimpressed by much of Burton’s cinematic output for much of the last decade, and were sceptical of his latest endeavour. However, the first bit of footage from his newie has our faith (at least temporarily) restored.
It stars Johnny Depp as 18th century playboy Barnabas Collins, who is unceremoniously turned into a vampire by a vengeful witch (Eva Green) and buried alive for more than two hundred years. He emerges in 1972 and seeks to reclaim his Manor, which is now inhabited by his dysfunctional descendants.
There’s a real Brady Bunch Movie vibe to this teaser, and that ain’t a bad thing.

Dark Shadows also stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Bella Heathcote, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Michelle Pfeiffer, and, of course, Helena Bonham Carter.
It arrives in Australian cinemas May 10, 2012.
Chloe Grace Moretz, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are all so awesome. Can’t wait to see this movie when it happens
