Red Dog musical heads to the stage

Producer Nelson Woss is keen to expand the success of local hit Red Dog from the screen to the stage.

Speaking with Perth Now, Woss revealed his plans to produce a musical based on the tale of the legendary canine who brought companionship to the miners of the Pilbara region.

Woss believes the stage show could premiere in Western Australia as early as 2013.

Also in the works: a documentary and a TV show, though details on these are sparse.

Red Dog was named Best Film at the inaugural AACTA awards earlier this year.

It is unknown if Golden Collar winning kelpie Koko will participate in any of these projects. His quote might be too high following the blockbuster success of his movie.

  1. Don’t be silly. When the musical hit the boards – ask me again.

  2. No crying my eyes out in public the first time was bad enough!
