Woody Allen‘s follow-up to his biggest ever hit, Midnight in Paris, has undergone a title change. Bid farewell to Nero Fiddled, and say ‘Buon giorno’ to To Rome With Love.
Sony Pictures Classics issued a statement (though Variety first broke the news) in which the studio explained their reasoning for ditching the previous title.
“Nero Fiddled, while an appropriate and humorous phrase in the U.S., is not a familiar expression overseas and many international territories preferred a more globally understood name.”
No doubt they’d also like to replicate the success of Allen’s last European sojourn, which similarly featured the location in the title. Allen won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for his Paris script.
To Rome With Love stars Woody himself, along with Penelope Cruz, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig, and Ellen Page.
