Controversial erotic e-book headed to the big screen

Some of the top Hollywood studios are hot under the collar for E.L. James’ erotic e-book 50 Shades of Grey, a self-published tale of bondage for the Twilight set.

According to the L.A. Times, Paramount, Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, Fox 2000, and Universal have been busy making the case to James and her literary agent that they are the studio to bring the tale to the big screen.

50 Shades of Grey is just the first book in the series; the entire trilogy is being sold as a package. The sale of James’ franchise to a studio would be a first in the world of self-distributed online fiction.

The book concerns virginal 21-year-old Anastasia Steele’s S&M affair with an older billionaire by the name of Christian Grey.

Though Twilight fans are the obvious target audience, 50 Shades of Grey would likely require a harsher rating than those given to the relatively innocent Stephanie Meyer’s tales. No convenient cut-aways in these sex scenes!
