The new trailer for Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages is bad; there’s no nice way of saying it.
While Tom Cruise fans (there must be some of them out there) will be happy to get a glimpse of him as Stacee Jaxx rocking out a Bon Jovi tune on stage, the remainder of the trailer is cringe worthy at best. For a big screen adaptation it plays a little too close to the stage production, at least according to the trailer, and doesn’t seem to aim high enough.
Based on the stage rock-musical that took the world by storm, the film, set in the 1980s, boasts an impressive cast including Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Bryan Cranston. Julianne Hough, last seen in the Footloose remake, stars as the wide-eyed newcomer to LA, Sherrie Christian, and Diego Boneta plays her love interest and aspiring rocker Drew Boley.
