Universal reopen The Mummy’s tomb for a reboot

Universal are planning a reboot of their Mummy series, Variety reports.

The last few materialisations of the Mummy starred Brendan Fraser, and were smash hits in the late 90s and early 00s. However, the monster franchise originated at the studio back in 1932.

Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts has been tasked with scripting the new incarnation. He said of the project:

“I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with ‘Prometheus’ to go back to a franchise’s roots in dark, scary source material and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven’t seen before.”
