Raging Bull II in the works

Here is what happens when you withdraw from the world of movie news over the Easter long weekend – someone goes ahead and announces a sequel to Raging Bull.

According to MovieHole, National Lampoon’s Cattle Call director Martin Guigui is set to helm a sequel to Martin Scorsese‘s iconic 1980 boxing biopic.

William Forsythe is supposedly in the lead to take on the role of real-life pugilist Jake LaMotta, originally portrayed by Robert De Niro (who collected an Oscar for his troubles).

The picture is based on Chris Anderson, Sharon McGehee, and LaMotta’s book Raging Bull II, and will “serve as a companion piece… and is both a prequel and sequel”.

GQ asked Marty how he felt about the sequel:

“Oh, nothing I could say about it except I don’t think I could revisit the material, as they say. I think we said what we had to say at that time. All of us moved on. Different aspects of the same story basically keep making the rounds. You know? … I really don’t know what Raging Bull II would be.”

Production begins in June.  Casting is currently underway.

Discuss: Thoughts?

One Response to “Raging Bull II in the works”

  1. No No No No No No No. Who the heck was clamoring for a sequel to Raging Bull? NO ONE, no one wants that and you know why? it’s a classic movie from 20 years ago directed by one of the greatest directors ever starring one of the greatest actors ever… HOW CAN THAT BE IMPROVED ON? I just… no, no no and did I mention No because I think the word No kind of leapt into my mind
