Steve Carell and Toni Collette will reteam for the first time since Little Miss Sunshine, Variety reports.
The ex-star of The Office and the woman of multiple personalities from United States of Tara are said to be joining forces in Jim Rash and Nat Faxon’s The Way, Way Back.
Rash and Faxon last collaborated as writers on the Oscar Award winning screenplay for The Descendants, but this will mark their directorial debut. The screenplay, which they co-wrote, appeared on the 2010 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced scripts, and if their directing matches their writing, the final product looks set to become an indie darling.
Sam Rockwell and Allison Janney are also confirmed to appear in the sounds-to-be coming of age story about a teenager with an uninvolved mother (Collette), and a womanising step-father (Carell). According to Variety, Carell’s character also “likes to drink, do drugs and carouse with other women,” which should see him stretch his acting muscles.
