Francis Lawrence sits atop the Cornucopia victorious. Lionsgate has confirmed the I Am Legend director will helm their Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire.
He replaces outgoing director Gary Ross, who exited on account of not having “the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted.”
Lawrence reportedly beat Bennett Miller, David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuarón, and Alejandro González Iñárritu among others to the gig.
The film is still slated for release November 22, 2013.
