Lionsgate, the studio that brought Young Adult novel The Hunger Games to the screen, is eyeing its next big franchise: Patrick Ness’ Chaos Walking series.
But here’s the really interesting part. According to Deadline, Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind screenwriter Charlie Kaufman has been tapped to adapt it.
Ness’ books concern a dystopian future on a distant planet, in which an infection known as “the noise” makes all thoughts audible. Society crumbles, and a war between the human settlers and the indigenous aliens looms.
If Kaufman’s Adaptation is any indication, you can go ahead and expect this to be a very loose, well, adaptation.
