Julianne Moore offered role of Carrie’s mother in remake

The Carrie remake no one asked for is suddenly more interesting than it deserves to be as Julianne Moore is offered the role of Carrie’s crazy mother.

According to Deadline, Moore has finally been offered the role that Piper Laurie immortalised in Brian De Palma‘s 1976 horror classic.

With Chloe Moretz already set for the titular role, one definitely can’t fault the casting of this remake, but it’s yet to be seen what angle director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry, Stop-Loss) will take with the material. She’s never taken on such a deeply genre based film before and for what will only be her third feature film in 14 years, it’s certainly a strange project to choose.

At the very least, we know Julianne Moore does hysterical better than anyone in the business.

Carrie is due sometime in 2013.

Discuss: Does this remake excite you at all or is it just another blasphemous redo?
