Fire breaks out at Tyler Perry’s studio

A four-alarm fire broke out in Tyler Perry’s Atlanta based studio late on Tuesday night, the LA Times reports.

Perry is known for a string of African-American themed films he wrote, directed, produced and starred in over the last seven years. Best described as a hellish cross between Woody Allen, George Lucas and Martin Lawrence, Perry cornered the market with his patented blend of gritty, comical, heart-warming dramas that often featured him in drag as a grandmother called Madea.

Despite criticism from artists such as Spike Lee that he trades in negative racial stereotypes, Perry’s films have still made over 500 million dollars, enabling him to building this high-tech, 200,000 square foot studio complex. Total damages are unknown at this point but Perry himself is safe and sure to be back in Madea’s garb soon enough; no doubt inspired to make a film about the ordeal.

Discuss: Are you a fan of Perry’s work?
