Robert Pattinson to play “mastermind” behind Saddam Hussein’s capture

Deadline has confirmed Robert Pattinson will star in Mission: Blacklist, to be directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire and to be sold at the upcoming Cannes Film Market by Embankment Films.

Erik Jendresen, who wrote and produced Band of Brothers, has adapted the screenplay from the Harper Collins novel Mission Black List #1: The Inside Story of the Search for Saddam Hussein—as Told by the Soldier who Masterminded His Capture. That extremely long title should give you an idea of the film’s plot, which is “a gripping, edge of your seat thriller” according to producer Ross M. Dinerstein.

The film details the real life story of the US search for Saddam Hussein, told from the perspective of Eric Maddox, the interrogator, and one of the authors of the book, whose work led to Hussein’s capture.

This casting announcement marks another step Pattinson is taking away from his Twilight days. His next film is David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis.

Discuss: Do you buy Pattinson as “soldier who masterminded his capture?”
