Melbourne International Film Festival reveals Next Gen titles

The Melbourne International Film Festival recently announced their Next Gen program for 2012, and it looks great.

The Next Gen portion of MIFF’s program is designed to appeal to burgeoning cinephiles and school groups from upper primary to upper secondary levels, with many films having accompanying study guides for teachers to work with.

Newly appointed Next Gen co-ordinator Thomas Caldwell and his team have definitely expanded the scope of the program from previous years.

Highlights include 11 Flowers from award-winning Chinese filmmaker Wang Xiaoshuai (Beijing Bicycle); the confronting and controversial US documentary Bully; 3D animation Monster in Paris from powerhouse producer Luc Besson and writer/director Bibo Bergeron; and the lovely Japanese anime A Letter To Momo from the legendary Hiroyuki Okiura, who began his career as animator on classics like Akira and Ghost In The Shell.

The full program for MIFF will be released early July and the festival runs August 2 to August 19, 2012.
