Trailer Debut: The Campaign

The first full length trailer for the Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis comedy The Campaign has debuted online, highlighting how much funnier the film’s pre-trailer advertising was.

Of course, this depends on whether or not you think punching a baby in the face constitutes as funny, which this film does when Ferrell’s North Carolina congressman Cam Brady makes this faux pas. Thank goodness for Galifianakis’ simple minded Marty Huggins, who struggles with a door that isn’t marked ‘push’ or ‘pull’ for some laughs.

We learn through the trailer that Brady has run unopposed for years until Huggins, an ‘everyman’, steps up to challenge him for the electorate. Cue the cheap digs and cheap jokes, as Cam tells each group he speaks to, including a group of Filipino Tilt-a-Whirl operators, that they are the nation’s backbone.

There’s sure to be more fake campaign videos or online shenanigans before the film’s release later this year, hopefully funnier than the majority of this trailer.

The Campaign, directed by Jay Roach, arrives in Australian cinemas August 9, 2012.
