Catherine Keener and Charlie Kaufman develop HBO show

Catherine Keener is set to star in a new HBO comedy series written and directed by Oscar winner Charlie Kaufman, Deadline reports.

Keener previously starred in Kaufman’s directorial debut Synecdoche, New York, as well as movies he scripted, such as Being John Malkovich, and Adaptation (in which Keener had a cameo).

This new series will mark their first time collaborating on television. The project is as yet untitled, but is confirmed as a half hour comedy that has been fast tracked by the network.

The show will follow one day in Keener’s character’s life, and explore how the preceding events might affect her reality. Kaufman will executive produce the series, with Keener stepping in as producer.

If Kaufman’s back catalogue is any indication, prepare for a mind-bending comedy that plays on the idea of What if?

The pair are currently also working together on Kaufman’s upcoming film, Frank Or Francis.

Discuss: A collaboration to be excited about?
