Adam Sandler replaces Mark Wahlberg in Will Ferrell comedy

Last year it was reported that the stars of The Other Guys Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg – would reteam for the backyard football comedy Three Mississippi, to be directed by Ferrell’s regular collaborator Adam McKay.

Vulture today reports that Wahlberg has had to drop out of the picture due to scheduling issues, and Adam Sandler might be taking his place. Also, with McKay now helming the Anchorman sequel, Sean Anders (That’s My Boy) has been recruited to sit in the director’s chair.

Ferrell and Sandler will play the patriarchs of two neighbouring families who go to war over an annual Thanksgiving game of tackle football.

Alec Baldwin was attached to play Wahlberg’s dad; in fact, the project was originally built around the idea of the former Departed co-stars spitting barbs back and forth once again. It is unknown if he will remain with Sandler as his son.

Warner Bros acquired the pitch from writers Robert Carlock (30 Rock) and Scott Silveri (Friends). The story is credited to Owen Burke (Funny or Die).
