The war between Sydney and Melbourne rages on! With only 24 hours to go until the Sydney Film Festival kicks into gear, the team behind the Melbourne International Film Festival have snuck in and previewed some of the features headed to Victoria this year.
Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, Michael Haneke’s Palme d’Or winner Amour, and Sundance hit Beasts of the Southern Wild – all making their Aussie debut at SFF – will play at MIFF, alongside Lynn Shelton’s follow-up to Humpday, Your Sister’s Sister, Takeshi Miike‘s nutso video game adaptation, Ace Attorney, Werner Herzog‘s prison doco Into the Abyss, and the latest movie from the makers of Little Miss Sunshine, Ruby Sparks.
You can check out the 20 fiction features, 12 documentaries, and four shorts at the official Melbourne International Film Festival website. The full line-up will be revealed July 13, 2012. MIFF 2012 runs from August 2 to 19. The festival will open with a screening of Aussie hit in the making, The Sapphires.
