Crispin Glover headed to 15th Revelation Perth International Film Festival

The Sydney Film Festival is officially in full swing, and the Melbourne International Film Festival just recently announced its first batch of flicks. But cast your eyes to the west coast of Australia and take note of the sprightly young fest vying for – and deserving – your attention; the dark horse/strange cousin of Australia’s festival circuit.

The line-up for the 2012 Revelation Perth International Film Festival was revealed at the launch in Western Australia. The schedule – looking like the best in years – can now be glimpsed at Revelation’s official site.

Proceedings kick off on July 5 with Lynn Shelton‘s follow-up to the exquisite HumpdayYour Sister’s Sisterstarring Mark DuplassEmily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt .

Back to the Future‘s Crispin Glover (the dark horse/strange cousin of Hollywood) will head to Perth to screen his flicks It Is Fine! EVERYTHING IS FINE!, and What Is It?, followed by his notorious presentation Crispin Hellion Glover’s The Big Slide Show (Parts 1 and 2). Comedian Judith Lucy will act as Revelation’s inaugural patron.

Among the narrative features: Inside directors Julien Maury & Alexandre Bustillo‘s latest horror flick, Livid; Oren Moverman’s Rampart; The Trouble with Bliss, starring Michael C. Hall; and B-movie throwbacks The 25th Reich, Yakuza Weapon, and The Caretaker.

The documentaries are just as appealing: MOMA exhibit turned film Marina Abramovic – The Artist is Present; Oscar winning doco Undefeated; Hoop Dreams‘ helmer Steve James‘ latest acclaimed effort, The Interrupters; as well as Gavin Bond and Ian Abercromby’s Buff, a local movie about, well, movies and the critics who love them. (Full disclosure: I was interviewed for the latter, so I likely won’t review it. That is, unless I was snipped from the final cut. Then there will most certainly be some very firm words written about the flick…)

There are plenty more special events, including a live musical scoring of George Méliès’ silent pictures (popularised recently in Hugo).

The 15th Revelation Perth International Film Festival runs from July 5 to 15, 2012. It goes down, as usual, in The Astor Theatre.
