Charlize Theron is in talks to star in John Madden’s Murder Mystery, according to Deadline.
The Prometheus star is already signed on to co-produce the Madden (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Shakespeare in Love) directed film, described as a comedic whodunit and “affectionate deconstruction of an Agatha Christie tale.” The role would see her as one part of an American couple abroad who encounter action, mystery, and comic situations.
James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) wrote the screenplay and is also producing alongside Endgame Entertainment and Theron’s Denver and Delilah Productions. Vanderbilt is one of a string of hot writers in Hollywood at the moment, so his involvement is promising. Theron’s comedic turn in Young Adult last year also makes this a project to watch.
The film is set for an early 2013 production with no word on who might star opposite Theron as her husband.
