Not much more than two weeks after we had the First Glimpse release, Melbourne International Film Festival have announced another load of films, this time highlighting the haul of over 35 features they picked up from Cannes.
As well as previously announced big hitting flicks such as the Palme d’Or winner Amour and Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, MIFF will be screening the big Kerouac adaptation On The Road; Leos Carax‘s stunning Holy Motors, featuring Kylie Minogue; Abbas Kiarostami‘s latest, Japan-set Like Someone In Love; Pablo Larrain‘s prize winning No featuring Gael García Bernal; and Beyond The Hills, Cristian Mungiu‘s follow up to his 2007 Palme d’Or victor 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.
As well as these, MIFF picked up several great titles on the genre tip that look exciting also. Sightseers, a black comedy from the director of last year’s powerful Kill List; Room 237, a documentary examining the many conspiracy theories surrounding Stanley Kubrick‘s films; Gangs Of Wasseypur, a truly amazing five-and-a-half hour Bollywood gangster epic; and Maniac, an ecstatically over the top horror movie starring Elijah Wood.
You can see the full list of Cannes titles at the official Melbourne International Film Festival website. The full program will be announced July 13 and the festival will run August 2 to 19, 2012.
Bring on that Shining doco!
