Andrew Stanton might swim back to the safety of Pixar following the failure of his John Carter, with Deadline claiming that the Oscar-winner has been hired to direct a sequel to Finding Nemo.
The studio has reportedly been working on the project for months, with Stanton only signing on if Disney promised to let him to make another live-action film in the future.
Stanton himself commented on the rumours via Twitter:
“Didn’t you all learn from Chicken Little? Everyone calm down. Don’t believe everything you read. Nothing to see here now. #skyisnotfalling“
Finding Nemo is set to be re-released in 3-D later this year, and its box office takings will no doubt be a significant factor as to whether this sequel moves ahead.
Then again, upon release in 2003, it grossed a massive $867 million worldwide. Maybe their minds are already made up.
Discuss: Excited to potentially see another Finding Nemo, or is this just an example of a studio and director floundering creatively?
