Steven Spielberg wants Chris Hemsworth for Robopocalypse

Steven Spielberg has set his sights on Aussie Chris Hemsworth for the starring role in Robopocalypse, according to Deadline.

After back-to-back success with leading roles in Thor, The Avengers, and Snow White and the Huntsman, Hemsworth has met with Spielberg to discuss his upcoming directorial blockbuster effort.

Robopocalypse is based on the novel by Daniel H. Wilson, in which humans are pitted against an apocalyptic robot uprising, promising a CGI-packed, high energy popcorn movie when it’s released in April 2014. The latest script comes courtesy of Kario Salem, whose previous film is the upcoming Chasing Mavericks, directed by Curtis Hanson and starring Gerard Butler.

This potential casting news is a big coup for Hemsworth, who has gone from strength to strength since transitioning his career to Hollywood. He has four films on his slate at the moment including Ron Howard’s Formula 1 tribute Rush and Thor: The Dark World, recently announced at Comic Con.

Discuss: Hemsworth and Spielberg. Is this a collaboration you’d like to see come to fruition?
