Hedwig and the Angry Inch sequel in the works

John Cameron Mitchell is working on a sequel to his cult classic Hedwig and the Angry Inch, according to friend Kevin Sessums.

Sessums caught up with the acclaimed director and discovered that the final touches were being added to a draft of a Hedwig sequel.

Originally a stage musical, Mitchell adapted the tale of a transgender singer for the big screen (reprising his role as the eponymous East German character).

Mitchell followed it up with the notorious Shortbus, but recently ventured into more conventional fare with the acclaimed, Oscar nominated Rabbit Hole.

Looks like he’s ready to return to his roots.

The show’s original composer, Stephan Trask, will reunite with Mitchell for the follow-up. It is unknown whether the sequel is bound for the stage, the screen, or both.
