In news that should excite fans of The Shining – Kidding! The internet hates this kind of thing! – Warner Bros are toying with the idea of producing a prequel to the Stanley Kubrick classic.
According to the L.A. Times, writer-producer Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Avatar) and partners Bradley Fischer (Black Swan) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) are crafting a new take on the legend of the Overlook Hotel.
A spokesperson for WB stresses that the development of a prequel is in the very early stages, and not official.
Based on the Stephen King book of the same name, 1980’s The Shining starred Jack Nicholson as a struggling writer and hotel caretaker driven mad by isolation. It is regarded as one of the best ever horror films by many, excluding, famously, Stephen King, who produced his own critically lambasted version years later.
