The Great Gatsby delayed until mid-2013

Baz Luhrmann‘s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby is a 2012 Oscar contender no more. The 3-D flick has been pushed back six months from its December release date.

Gatsby will now open mid 2013, in the heat of the American summer. Warner Bros claim the move will allow them to capitalise on a bigger audience.

Seems they consider it more of a money spinner than awards contender. Noted!

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, the slick, self-made socialite who harbours affection for his old flame Daisy (Carey Mulligan), despite her being married to the brutish Tom (Joel Edgerton). Tobey Maguire plays narrator Nick Carraway, thrust into Gatsby’s world of high society parties following his return from World War 1.
