Eastern Promises 2 is no more.
While doing press for Cosmopolis, director David Cronenberg told The Playlist that Focus Features have pulled the plug on a sequel to his Oscar nominated gangster flick.
“We were supposed to start shooting ‘Eastern Promises 2’ in October…. [But] It’s done… If you don’t like it talk to James Schamus at Focus. It was his decision.”
Though the original Eastern Promises wasn’t a massive hit during its theatrical run, star Viggo Mortensen earned an Academy Award nomination for playing an undercover Russian agent with a penchant for fighting in the buff.
The Playlist note Cronenberg’s frustration while relaying the information. We’ve seen Scanners. You shouldn’t make this guy angry.
