Tony Scott, director of Top Gun, True Romance, and most recently Unstoppable, has died after jumping from Los Angeles’ Vincent Thomas Bridge. He was 68 years old.
According to the L.A. County Coroner‘s office, the death is being investigated as a suicide. Witnesses contacted 911 around 12:35pm on Sunday; it took four hours for his body to be recovered from the water.
The Coast Guard was said to have found a suicide note in his parked car.
The brother of Ridley Scott, Tony made a name for himself with a series of box office blockbusters and regular collaborations with Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington. Scott also produced the TV series The Good Wife and Numb3rs.
He was reportedly working on a sequel to Top Gun.
Tony Scott is survived by his wife Donna, and their twin sons.
