Michael Clarke Duncan, the Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated star of The Green Mile and a regular, warm presence in many a film, has died of a myocardial infarction. He was 54.
Duncan had suffered a heart attack on July 13, but the quick actions of his girlfriend Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth reportedly saved his life.
The actor finally succumbed to his ailments in the Los Angeles hospital where he had resided since the attack.
In a written statement from family representative Joy Fehily, Manigault-Stallworth was referred to as Duncan’s fiancée.
While looking for acting gigs in L.A during the 1990s., Duncan worked as a bodyguard to celebs such as Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, and Notorious B.I.G.
After playing a string of guards and bouncers on screen, he caught his big break as Bear in Michael Bay‘s Armageddon.
The following year, he brought magical death-row inmate John Coffey to life in Frank Darabont‘s Oscar-nominated The Green Mile.
Duncan went on to appear in Planet of the Apes, The Scorpion King, Daredevil, and Talladega Nights, while also lending his distinct, booming voice to Brother Bear, Kung Fu Panda, and Green Lantern.
R.I.P.
