The final film in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy will be titled The Hobbit: There and Back Again and will be released worldwide on July 18, 2014, Deadline reports.
The news comes direct from Warner Brothers and MGM Pictures, who also confirmed the second film in the franchise would be renamed The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and will be released on December 13, 2013.
With the first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey due in cinemas December 26, 2012, we’ll have a year between the first two instalments but only six months between the sequel and the epic conclusion. According to Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution for Warner Brothers, “We wanted to have a shorter gap between the second and third films … Opening in July affords us not only the perfect summer tentpole, but fans will have less time to wait for the finale of this epic adventure.”
