James Cameron still believes Jack had to sacrifice himself for Rose at the end of Titanic, despite certain memes suggesting the floating plank that saved her life could have easily fit them both.
Speaking to IGN, Cameron revealed he is going to help the Mythbusters team prove his point.
“It’s not a question of room, it’s a question of buoyancy… When Jack puts Rose on the raft, then he tries to get on the raft. He’s not an idiot, he doesn’t want to die. And the raft sinks, and it kind of flips. So it’s clear that there’s really only enough buoyancy available for one person. So he makes a decision to let her be that person instead of taking them both down.”
He continues to suggest that if they were both on board, the slightly submerged raft would have led to them speedily succumbing to hypothermia.
The more you know!
According to the movie lore, the raft probably wouldn’t have been buoyant enough for both of them and had both gotten on it – may have lead to both of them succumbing to hypothermia. But it was still cruel and disappointing for Jack to have died after all they had been through! I am sure the vast majority of ‘Titanic’ fans feel this way. THANKS, James Cameron! (I am being sarcastic by the way….)
