Trailer Debut: Lincoln

Steven Spielberg‘s plan to emancipate all the Oscars from the Academy’s hands seems to be coming together quite nicely, with the trailer for his Lincoln looking like the awards-fodder we always expected it to be.

That said, it’s hard not to anticipate an Abraham Lincoln biopic with Daniel Day-Lewis in the leading role, no matter how “worthy” the flick may seem.

The trailer reminds us more of War Horse than any movie about a human man should, but it has plenty of lovely moments with the supporting cast, including Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, David Strathairn, and countless others.

Lincoln is based on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book Team of Rivals, and has been adapted by Tony Kushner for the screen.

It arrives in cinemas January 17, 2013.

Discuss: What would DDL need to do here to not secure an Oscar nomination?
