Coen brothers working on Fargo TV show

Joel and Ethan Coen’s Fargo is headed to the small screen as FX signs a deal to develop a series based on the Academy Award winning crime drama, Deadline reports.

Frances McDormand won a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of pregnant Police Chief Marge Gunderson, who unravels a crime thanks to the inept handiwork of car-dealer Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) and his hired henchmen Carl (Steve Buscemi) and Gaear (Peter Stormare).

The hour-long show is said to be loosely based on the film with the Coens onboard as executive producers and Noah Hawley (Bones) credited as writer and executive producer.

This marks the second attempt to translate Fargo to the small screen, with MGM producing a failed pilot back in 2003. That adaptation was directed by Kathy Bates, starred Edie Falco and was created without Joel and Ethan Coen’s involvement.
