Former MMA fighter and Haywire actress Gina Carano is the first name to be attached to the forthcoming female incarnation of The Expendables, according to Variety.
Carano signing on to the film was a no-brainer for producer Adi Shankar who has pitched the as-yet-untitled film as The Female Expendables. Speaking on Carano’s casting he said, “I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of The Expendables without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba.”
It will mark the first feature film for screenwriter Dutch Southern with high-profile names like Linda Hamilton, Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, Cynthia Rothrock, and Lucy Lawless already churning through the rumour mill as potential stars.
If Shankar and Southern decide to replicate the success formula from the box office hit The Expendables and its sequel, the aforementioned actresses could prove to be a big drawcard to an otherwise stale sounding premise.
