American remake of Gavin & Stacey going ahead

British comedy series Gavin & Stacey is all set for a U.S version according to reports in Deadline.

Fox recently closed the deal announcing David Rosen as the writer of this American adaptation. Rosen is only known for his recently cancelled hipster MTV series I Just Want My Pants Back.

It’s unclear what role original series creators James Corden & Ruth Jones will take in this remake but they are listed as producers. It’s unlikely they will have a close creative input.

Apart from the notable success of The Office, it almost never is a good thing to take an English show across the pond, and considering the simplicity of Gavin & Stacey’s concept I am comfortable assuming this is not going to be anything other than embarrassing.

Do we remember the U.S attempts at Men Behaving Badly and The I.T Crowd? You don’t? There is a good reason for that.
