Teaser Debut: Evil Dead

The teaser for that Evil Dead remake – no, not the unofficial sequel that was nixed after a lawsuit by the original’s production company – has arrived online. And it is not for the squeamish, though anyone familiar with the series should have figured as much.

Produced by former director Sam Raimi and star Bruce Campbell, this newie seems to avoid the comic tone that later became the franchise’s signature, and instead recalls the gory brutality of the ingenious first instalment. Bad news for this batch of teens who accidentally raise supernatural ruckus at their cabin in the woods.

Helmed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy, this Evil Dead reboot seems to have some of signature moments from the earlier movies (involving a certain tree, a possessed arm, and evil itself hurtling towards the cabin), but the bloody mayhem seems to have been increased. We’re not complaining.
