Christoph Waltz might play with The Muppets

Christoph Waltz is currently in negotiations for a starring role in The Muppets sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Academy Award winning star of Inglorious Basterds is said to play an Interpol inspector in the Europe-set film. Plot details are scarce at this point in time, however Waltz’s part is said to be one of a few key human roles amidst the menagerie of Jim Henson creations.

The sequel will follow on from the 2011 hit The Muppets, which starred Jason Segel and Amy Adams. Segal co-wrote the screenplay and was touted with resurrecting the franchise from a string of bad straight to DVD films (to the tune of $158 million at the worldwide box office).

While co-writer Nicholas Stoller and director James Bobin are returning for the sequel, Segel will not.

Waltz will next be seen in Quentin Tarantino’s highly anticipated Django Unchained, which arrives in cinemas January 2013.
