A sequel to Sony’s surprise hit Hotel Transylvania is in the works.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a September 2015 date has been set for the follow-up.
The picture has grossed more than $253 million worldwide, and is the highest grossing Sony Pictures Animation title ever.
That impressive tally can be tied to its clever pre-Halloween release (becoming the family film of choice over that period) and the voice cast, which includes Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg.
It easily out grossed Sandler and Samberg’s previous Sony collaboration, That’s My Boy.
Director Genndy Tartakovsky will not helm the sequel, as he is busy at work on SPA’s Popeye, due out in 2014.
