Guillermo Del Toro has revealed he was approached to potentially direct Disney’s Star Wars: Episode 7, but declined on account of his full schedule.
Del Toro told The Playlist, “they haven’t formally approached me, [but] we got one phone call to my agent saying, ‘Is Guillermo interested?'”
Unfortunately, Del Toro passed on the opportunity.
“It was very nice to be asked, but believe it or not, I’m busy enough.”
Busy walking away from some projects (The Hobbit) and having studios shut the other ones down (At the Mountains of Madness)?
We eagerly await his next flick, Pacific Rim, unless the powers that be decide to tear it away from us and burn the print ahead of its release, just to continue Del Toro’s unlucky streak.
As for who he’d like to see helm the next Star Wars: “The fans deserve somebody that is just going to immerse themselves completely. As a geek, I would have loved to see Brad Bird take it.”
Star Wars: Episode 7, written by Michael Arndt, hits cinemas in 2015.
