Lance Armstrong was unable to turn public opinion by confessing his sins to Oprah, and it seems unlikely that an upcoming movie based on his indiscretions will make him any more sympathetic.
According to Deadline, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures have acquired the rights to Juliet Macur’s upcoming book Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong.
Sony Pictures was previously developing a biopic on Armstrong’s life, with Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star. That film was meant to be a heroic tale of a cancer survivor’s triumphant victories at the Tour de France.
Circumstances have, ahem, changed since those plans emerged, and Sony is no longer working on the pic.
